Grog

Main Story: Sailor Jerry and Kraken rums Now at Tortuga

The Caribbean is the epicenter of the world’s Rum production, thanks in part to its ideal climate for growing sugar cane. Historically, rum has been used as a cure-all for many of the aches and pains that afflicted those living in the tropics.

The British navy even adopted a daily ration of a half-pint of 160-proof rum in the 1730s. The ration was later modified by mixing it with an equal amount of water to produce a drink called grog, which remained a staple of British naval life until 1969.

Here’s a modern-day Grog recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 part Sailor Jerry
  • 1 part orange juice
  • Pilsner beer, or your favourite lager

Directions
Mix all ingredients in a beer glass
and enjoy.
