Meet the Staff

Main Story: : Kiss and Make Up Day: Smooth things over in style

Juan Moya

Juan is from Havana, Cuba and is definitely considered a cigar aficionado. With years of experience in the market both back home and at Churchill’s in Island Plaza, Juan is Island Companies’ cigar expert.

When did you leave Cuba?
About ten years ago. I actually worked for a company there that sold Cuban cigars wholesale to the Caribbean, including Island Companies.

What did you study in school?
I graduated from the Foreign Trade Institute in Cuba and then got into the cigar business.

It’s a product that gives a lot of pleasure. It allows you to have time to yourself, or to socialise with other cigar appreciators.

Why do you like working at Churchill’s?
We have the largest selection of cigars on the island, and I have a passion for the subject, which allows me to interact with customers from all over the world.

Maja Kordez

Maja is a bubbly personality from north Slovenia and seems to have endless energy, much like some of the watches she sells. You can find her at Island Time in The Flagship Store, George Town.

What is your favourite hobby?
Photography.

What job did you have before you left home?
I was a tourist agent selling packages and arranging tour guides. I then joined Costa Cruises for four years.

What did you do on the ships?
I was the gift shop manager. It was great fun, but after a while I wanted to settle somewhere, so I came to the Cayman Islands.

Why here?
I loved it from visiting on the ship, and it’s a safe place. I moved here in May 2012 and I’ve worked at Island Time ever since.

What is your favourite brand?
Cuervo y Sobrinos. I just love its old-fashioned, classic and artistic look.

Karen Simpson

Karen hails from Clarendon, Jamaica and works in the Island Plaza Pandora Store. From a young age she knew she wanted to be in sales, so this job is like a dream come true for her.

What was your favourite subject in school?
Mathematics.

What did you do in Jamaica?

I worked in fashion, first for a private company and then on my own as a designer. It was when I got my first sales job there, however, that I realised I wanted to work in retail.

When did you come to the Cayman Islands?
In 1995, and I began working for Island Companies in 2006 in their then Hot Tropics store. I moved to Pandora in 2009.

What do you like about the Pandora store?
Each and every customer has a different story that they share, which is why they choose unique charms that are special and significant to them.
