That cool breeze you’re feeling? That’s the closest thing to fall and winter that you’ll probably experience here in the Cayman Islands. It’s the official indicator of the coming Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve season.
Here are some dates to mark in your calendar that will get you in the holiday spirit:
Saturday, Nov. 22, 6 to 8 p.m.
8th Annual Tree Lighting
The Crescent, Camana Bay
It is a truly magical night at Camana Bay, when the tree is lit for the Christmas season. Camana Bay transforms into a sparkling wonderland with its majestic Christmas tree taking center stage, inspiring musical performances, a Christmas craft market and a special visit from Santa Claus.
Thursday, Nov. 27
With the US only one hour’s flight away, and US television channels piping into our homes, we’re well aware of this major upcoming holiday. Even if we’re not American, there’s something about those fall scenes, pumpkin pie and turkey that makes us feel warm inside.
No doubt turkey dinners will be available throughout the island, including The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. Yummy.
Saturday, Nov. 29, 2 to 5 p.m.
Pink Ladies Annual Christmas Bazaar
The ARC, Camana Bay
This beloved annual charity fundraiser features a craft and bake sale along with performances by the National Choir and Orchestra. The Pink Ladies is an amazing group of women dedicated to helping others, and they really need your support. Please make sure you stop by to enjoy a great afternoon of socializing, entertainment, and Christmas shopping.
Monday, Dec. 1, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Cayman HospiceCare’s Light Up A Life
Cassia Court, Camana Bay
The community comes together to celebrate the lives of loved ones by adding individual lights to the memorial tree. Cayman HospiceCare is a truly wonderful charity, looking after the terminally ill and their family members at no cost. This is an uplifting event that preserves wonderful memories.
Saturday, Dec. 6, 6 to 8 p.m.
Cayman 27’s Parade of Lights
The Crescent & The Festival Green, Camana Bay
One of the definite highlights of the Christmas season is the Parade of Lights at Camana Bay. Vessels of all shapes and sizes enchant young and old – it’s like their very own electric light parade on the water.
Boats aglow with thousands of brightly coloured lights slowly move through The Harbour, Camana Bay, against a soundtrack of choirs while a Christmas market charms with local food and crafts. Get there early to find a good vantage point.
Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7
Agriculture Grounds, Savannah
Cayman Thanksgiving will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7, and the fun of the homecoming concert, along with the tastes of the Market Day, are scheduled for Saturday Dec. 6, at the Agriculture Grounds in Grand Cayman.
Buy tasty, local produce on the Saturday to cook with family and friends around the table on the Sunday.
