Glamorous nights, cocktails and costumes

After a relatively quiet summer, the social scene suddenly kicks into high gear in October. Everyone is back from vacation and eager to don their glad rags for fundraisers, parties and Halloween.

It all begins with the Breast Cancer Gala at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman on Oct. 3. Tickets are already sold out for this much anticipated event, that this year will see Joan Lunden take to the stage as the keynote speaker.

There are at least four galas happening in October – a whirlwind calendar with champagne receptions galore. As if that wasn’t enough, mixology fans can look forward to Cocktail Week, and foodies are able to take advantage of great deals at restaurants participating in Restaurant Month.

Of course, everyone knows that Oct. 31 is the date when the costumes come out of the closet, shoppers head to the party supply stores, and residents throw bags and bags of candy into their supermarket carts for trick-or-treaters. If you care about what chocolates and sweets you’re handing out, best to get your shopping done early so you’ve got your pick. Many a year has seen empty shelves at the markets, or third rate bags of dicey-looking delectables left hanging on the racks come the last day of the month.

There are loads of Halloween parties to attend this year, and not all of them are scheduled for Oct. 31, so take a look at what we’ve covered in the following feature to make sure you don’t miss them. This also means that you can attend more than one – what a scream!

This feature is a great guide to upcoming events on the island, giving you information on locations, dates, ticket prices, and what to expect on the night. From more casual dress evenings like “Out of the Kitchen” to black tie affairs like the Hedge Funds Care dinner in November, and costumed extravaganzas (see our piece on the National Gallery’s “Night Circus”), there are wonderful evenings in store.

Mark your calendars for Cocktail Week, enjoy some fabulous meals, courtesy of Restaurant Month, and dust off those glass slippers. You shall go to the ball!
