Get your running shoes on – the Cayman Islands Marathon is here on Dec. 4! Whether you’re participating or joining in at one of the water stations, this sports event is one not to be missed.

How it has grown

The Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon began as a small event in 2002 and featured just over 160 total participants. In the last 14 years, the event has grown into arguably the islands biggest sports tourism event. The 2015 race featured 1,350 participants across the Full- and Half-Marathon and 4-Person Relay events, almost 300 children in the Kids Fun Run and over 200 volunteers.

Something for everyone

Whether you decide to take on the full or half distance, or even just a leg of the relay race, there are lots of ways to be part of the event.

The Half-Marathon has seen tremendous growth, because the event is great for both runners and walkers.  Due to the looped course, the Half-Marathon is open for the entire six hours that the full course is open. The Milo Kids Fun Run is a free event for all Primary School children that takes place the same morning of the marathon at 10:30 a.m. It is a half-mile and every child receives a finisher’s medal, T-shirt and runner’s bib.

2016 Speakers at Packet Pick-up Event

Coming to Cayman for this year’s marathon is famous running coach and author, Jeff Galloway.  Over a million runners and walkers have read Galloway books, attended his retreats and running schools, received e-coaching or individual consultation, or joined his training programs. He is a foremost authority on marathon running, and his expertise is invaluable.

Jeff was a U.S. Olympian competing in 1972 in the 10,000 meters and is the founder of the Run Walk Run method. He will conduct a running school while in Cayman and also treat all those registered for the marathon to a one-hour session at the Packet Pickup event at Westin on Dec. 3.

Cayman Compass competitions

The Cayman Compass is running a pre-marathon competition, offering marathon passes, free entrance to Jeff Galloway’s running school, and a copy of his signed book.

There will also be a photo tent at the Start and Finish lines. Get  your photo taken, then gather “Like”s on the Cayman Compass Facebook page to have a chance of winning a fabulous prize!
