The Cayman Drama Society at the Prospect Playhouse has recently put a focus on community outreach with the launch of training classes that include acting for both children and adults.
The classes examine acting and drama with the aim of building confidence and nurturing natural talents, giving students transferable skills for life and performance. The arts have benefits for people from all walks of life and the drama society welcomes anyone – beginner or seasoned actor – through its doors to enjoy the benefits of getting creative.
Adult training can be booked on a week-by-week basis as a drop-in workshop or can be reserved for a full term. This class covers everything from mime to scene study. Workshops are tailored to group needs.
The junior school has three age groups: 5-7 year olds (minis), which focuses on play and storytelling: 8-11 year olds (juniors) which starts to touch upon improvization and character work; and lastly, the 12-16 year olds (stage), who work more in-depth on plays, and even learn how to direct alongside their script work.
This summer, there is the opportunity to spend a week at the theater for the “play in a week” workshop. This is an action-packed schedule of fun. New students and regulars are welcome to sign up for the summer camps and the trainers will work to the ability and strengths of the group, so no one need be shy.
If you know a child between the ages of 8 and 16 who may benefit from a week of drama this summer, then contact the Cayman Drama Society.
The society now also offers corporate services. If you have a business that is interested in a public speaking workshop, assertiveness training or a team-building event, you can book a tailor-made session. Alternatively, if you have individual needs, there are one-on-one sessions available for all purposes.
