Have you ever wanted to watch a film at the cinema with just your friends, charter a boat or plane, book a private room at a restaurant or host a party with all the bells and whistles? All of these are possible, and sometimes for less money than you think.
I absolutely loathe trying to watch a movie when others around me have their mobile phone screens lit up, or, heaven forbid, they are actually talking on the phone. My dream scenario is where I have the theater all to myself and a few friends and we can watch a film in peace.
Turns out that you can rent a theater at Regal Camana Bay and do just that. The price varies depending on the time of day you want it and the day of the week, so if you’re okay with a morning viewing on a Tuesday, you’ll get a better rate than if you want to book for a premium night at a premium time.
Imagine booking a theater out for a private viewing of the latest Star Wars episode. If you don’t want to go full Daddy Warbucks, share the cost with others. It’s a pretty indulgent experience.
By sea or sky
Chartering a private boat can run you a few hundred bucks per hour up to a few thousand for half a day, depending on the craft that strikes your fancy. There is so much to be said for letting someone else worry about steering and docking while you and your friends enjoy the experience. Cayman has everything from speedboats, sailboats and fishing boats to some seriously kitted out vessels. If you’ve got a big party of people, chartering a catamaran for the day may be the way to go. Red Sail’s Spirit of the Seas has a built-in grill with chef upon request and a water slide.
To really be fancy, charter a plane to a nearby island or beyond. Yes, it is pricey, but you may never want to go back to flying commercial once you’ve flown private. It isn’t just the journey, it’s the VIP treatment before and after you fly. If you’ve got a big birthday, anniversary or similar celebration coming up, take a look at your options by visiting Island Air’s website at www.islandair.ky.
There are multiple event management companies on the island that can create a party as big or as small as you’d like. Alternatively, just like a wedding, you can hire entertainment, catering and décor yourself to save on the planning fee.
Even if you don’t have space in your home, you can book a venue elsewhere. Understandably, you’ll get a better rate in low season mid-week than you will in high season on a weekend.
Depending on your budget, you can choose an open bar or cash bar, passed hors d’oeuvres or something more hearty, a DJ or live band and décor that runs the gamut from just some extra lighting to full-on themed decorations and accessories.
The less you have to do, the better. After all, what’s the point of hosting a party if you can’t enjoy it yourself?
Beach cabana rentals
You may have noticed that the beaches at popular resorts now boast cabanas of all shapes and sizes. These attractive oases are rented out to guests to enhance their stay and can range from just a comfy day bed with shade, to a decked out semi-private space, complete with butler, fans and a refrigerator.
The Westin even has a double-decker model if you want to rise above the rest. Busy season drives the price up, but in the quieter time of year, you can get one of these cabanas for a great rate. It is SO worth it!
