The strumming of guitars and dulcet tones of live vocalists can often be heard wafting out of Cayman’s bars and hotels, exposing the array of talent we have in the on-island music industry. It would be hard to find a night (between Monday and Saturday, of course), that does not offer a chance to hear great live music in a variety of genres. Check out our selection of local venues and musicians.
Peppers Bar & Grill
On Wednesday evenings, Peppers features Dexter Bodden and the Coconut Cowboys, playing country music to the delight of diners. On Fridays, JR Douglas and his band play a wonderful mix of reggae, soca and popular music, and on Saturday nights Burmon Scott and Los Tropicanos rock the crowd with soca and reggae until midnight.
Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort
Little Magic duo plays at Anchor & Den from 6 p.m. every Thursday. Following this, and accompanying the popular El Mercat, Nit De Tapes (Tapas Night) at Anchor & Den, Flamenco Caribe, an ensemble of Spanish guitars and flamenco dancers, entertain guests from 7:45 p.m. On Saturdays, visitors to Anchor & Den’s Mad Tea Party can enjoy the sounds of flamenco and Spanish guitarist Nathan Herrera & Trio Vivo, or in the evening enjoy Loaded Peace beachside from 6 – 9 p.m.
Barolo lounge in Coconut Place features live music every Wednesday night from 9 p.m. till late. The evening features different local talent with a different artist playing for the whole month. July featured Josh Rice, while August brings Mackenzie Brown.
Grand Old House
Popular alternative trio Trinity play at Grand Old House on Thursday and Friday from 6 – 8 p.m. Comprised of Cory Allenger, Kate Allenger and Luis Eden, the band perform acoustic, alternative and pop and are often seen performing at various venues and events around the island.
Beachside bar and restaurant Royal Palms provides the venue for Cayman’s best rock bands to perform at their Saturday Night Live event from 8:30 p.m. – midnight on the Oceanfront Patio. Bands include the BaCkbeAt Band, Sea N’ B, and more.
Deckers and Abacus
Popular restaurants Deckers on West Bay Road and Abacus at Camana Bay both feature live music. Abacus hosts various performers to accompany the restaurants farm to dinner table and tapas night while acoustic duo Hi Tide, made up of Shane Allenger and Sean Hennings, play at Deckers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
Every Tuesday night Kaibo hosts the now famous Barefoot Beach BBQ. As well as a mouthwatering food selection including jerk pork, Cayman style fish, BBQ chicken and an array of sides, guests can enjoy the sweet sounds of Bona Fide who perform from 6 p.m. providing the perfect soundtrack for a dance under the stars.
The Westin offers live music at their Catboat Lobby Bar following their pool bar happy hour which runs from 5 – 7 p.m. Musical offerings include Loaded Peace, an acoustic act made up of guitarist and vocalist Martin and base and back up vocalist Derrick who perform a soulful set with creative original sound; Bona Fide who compose, write and produce their own music and perform a Latin infused set; guitarist Nathan Herrera who has had master classes with accomplished guitarists and flamenco guitarists and who’s music was recently featured on the National Geographic channel in the documentary “Voices of Mariel” and at the Cannes Film Festival’s feature of short films; and Bruce and Cally who have been a part of Cayman’s music scene since the late 80’s and featured at the Westin for the past 4 years, playing classic songs from all decades.
The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman
The Ritz’s casual pool and oceanside bar BarJack provides a stunning backdrop for live music. Cool Breeze Boys play weekly on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. and Loaded Peace play 4-7 p.m. on Thursdays, so guests can sit back with a cocktail and watch the sun set on the beautiful Seven Mile Beach to the sounds of excellent live music.
Wyndham Reef Resort
East End’s Wyndham Reef Resort may be far from the bustling Seven Mile strip, but its relaxed atmosphere and beautiful setting makes it worth the journey. They currently have live music from Lammie on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the Barefoot Man dinner and performance every Thursday night.
As some schedules are subject to change, always confirm with the venue as to whether their usual entertainment is ongoing through the summer months.
