While the clothes may be seen as the main event at fashion shows, accessories are often a designer’s secret weapon – with the ability to make an outfit pop or take basic garb to the next level.

Unsurprisingly for fall/winter collections, hats made a major appearance and this season they are big and bold.

These trends may be harder for us in the Caribbean to add to our daily repertoire, but if feeling brave on a weekend outing, or when heading off on holiday keep in mind the leather berets featured by Dior (and on the men’s catwalk at Prada, Louis Vuitton and Loewe), toupee-like toppers at John Galliano, and pieces reminiscent of large news/baker boy hats at Miu Miu and Prada.

The furry trend featured in the fully fur bags at Alexander McQueen, Balmain and Dries Van Noten, and the fur handles of Miu Miu, Fendi and Prada, while food made an appearance on Loewe, Kate Spade and Moschino bags.

As for size, both ends of the scale were represented in the bags of the Fall Winter 2017-2018 shows. While extremely oversized bags featured at Kenzo, Chanel and Stella McCartney, teeny tiny bags also made an appearance at Balenciaga, Coach, Fendi and Lanvin – so whatever you do, take it to the extreme with your carryall this season.

However, if you are looking to be the ultimate cream of the fashion crop this season, and pay heftily for the pleasure, look no further than The Supreme x Louis Vuitton bag – a collaboration between LV and Supreme. Whether you choose the bumbag (or fanny pack depending on your country of origin), backpack or chain wallet, don’t expect them to come cheap.

Scarves and tights

Accessories we may not get much use out of here are scarves and tights. Fur scarves appeared at Missoni, Versace and Michael Kors Collection, while for men specifically soccer fan style scarves continued to appear on Vetements catwalk and popped up on Gosha Rubchinskiy and Y/Project. Fancy tights featured on many of the catwalks, from Mulberry’s fluffy ones, to lacy Nina Ricci’s, there were tights for everyone.

The perfect Cayman accessory also featured – sunglasses, in many unusual shapes and crazy designs. Marble frames at Alice + Olivia and No. 21, plastic frames at Giorgio Armani, oversized cat eye at Dolce & Gabbana and Miu Miu, and out-of -this-world frames at Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana. Wire rims appeared, single and double, at Christian Siriano and Byblos.
