Any diver worth their salt is familiar with Eden Rock Diving Center in George Town. The long-established company offers easy access to two of the most popular shallow dives near the harbor: Eden Rock and Devil’s Grotto. These sites are known for amazing shoals of silversides roaming in their tunnels and caves at certain times of the year, hence the name of the new upstairs bar: SilverSide.
SilverSide is very new to the landscape – it had its soft opening last month and plans to really make its mark in Pirates Week. After all, its location is ideal for the festival and weary pirates who need to take a load off for a while.
The 100-person capacity venue is nicely decorated with local art adorning the walls. Owner Roger Freeman plans to showcase local artists with pieces changing from time-to-time. “Right now we have works from Stoak’d up, and we recently got a piece from Mario Rankine,” he says. “We definitely want to highlight Cayman’s artists here.”
The view is nothing to sniff at either; with an unfettered tropical vista from the outdoor terrace, SilverSide is definitely in the right place at the right time.
In its bid to celebrate everything local, the bar has shiny new Cayman Islands Brewery draft taps out front, serving up Caybrew, Caybrew Premium Light and Ironshore Bock. There’s nothing like a cold glass of locally brewed beer after a hard day at the office, particularly when the prices are as nice as this! SilverSide is offering great drink specials for a limited time to introduce itself to the Cayman public, so we should all do the right thing and take advantage. There will also be Caribbean tapas on the menu to keep your belly satisfied and a DJ spinning tunes on select nights.
This could be the perfect place to hold your office or private party. It’s intimate enough to create a social atmosphere, yet gives everyone breathing room. You might say you’ll party like a shoal of silversides!
Cheery staff members such as Kayla Smoddy look forward to welcoming you to the bar this season and beyond. Open from 4 p.m.-close, Mon.-Sat., this is the new hot place to be.
