It’s hard to believe that it has already been a year since a sea of green walkers, joggers and runners made their way around Britannia to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in fine form. This time, the 5k Irish Jog is set for March 16 to give people time to recuperate for the March 17 parties.

As ever, hosts Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited and Dart Enterprises Ltd. are donating the proceeds from the entrance fees to charity. This year, Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) was chosen to be the beneficiary.

The Irish Jog Organising Committee appeals to local charities to send requests to be the recipient of the funds raised by the annual 5k event. “We had a difficult task,” explained Mike McWatt, managing director of Butterfield. “There are always so many deserving charities and any of them would have been a worthy recipient of the funds, and I thank all of them for submitting their requests.

“ARK is a well-established charity, which stood out as its commitment to improving the lives of those less fortunate, particularly via their housing and education programs, reflected the Jog’s own community-oriented focus on encouraging healthy, happy family life.”

Tara Nielsen, founder of ARK said, “I cannot thank the committee enough for its support and the tremendous news that ARK has been chosen as the charity for the Irish Jog this year! What a wonderful and positive start to 2018 for ARK and those we support!”

“We are delighted to have chosen Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) as the beneficiary non-profit organization for this year’s St Patrick’s Day Irish Jog,” commented Chris Duggan, vice president of Community Development at Dart Enterprises. “We’re hoping for another record-breaking year in 2018 and encourage anyone, no matter what fitness level, to sign up to benefit such a great cause.”

Jog participants will receive a T-shirt, race number and have the chance to win one of several fabulous spot prizes awarded on a draw basis. This year’s prizes promise to be better than ever with a range of watersports excursions, dinners for two, spa services and more! There will be free hats, face stickers and other fun wear for everyone.

Complimentary refreshments will be available after the event.

This year’s Irish Jog will take place at Britannia at 5:30 p.m. on March 16. The entry fee is $10 per person.
