Keeping myself healthy is so important to me. In my mind I still feel like a 16-year-old and place no limitations to what my body can do. However as time marches on, I’ve came to realise that even though I have this youthful state of mind in truth I am 38 years old. I am at a point of my life that having annual medical check-ups needs to become a part of my wellness programme.
I am a strong advocate of prevention. We have all heard the old saying, “An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.” The best indication of your overall health is to get annual check-ups. These physicals should generally begin when you are about 35 years old, unless you are already experiencing unfamiliar symptoms at a younger age.
I made the appointment for my check-up. To me, the most important part of the examination was the blood work, namely my blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides readings, which give the most accurate picture of your health.
I find it odd that so much attention is given body weight. Most of the modules that are used to determine ideal body weight do no factor in lean muscle versus body fat.
Did you know that most of the major health issues people face today are preventable with proper diet and regular exercise? The effects from conditions such as hypertension to arthritis can be decreased if you begin a proper diet and exercise programme.
I recently received the results from my check-up and passed with flying colours. My doctor said I have the blood pressure of a child, and that my cholesterol and triglycerides are well within very normal ranges. The information is priceless to me.
