Jetting around the rock

By its very definition as an island, Grand Cayman is surrounded by water. Which to the adventurous means that it can be circumnavigated, nautically speaking.

And there is no faster and more challenging way to do that than aboard a personal water craft, which is what Jet Around Cayman is all about. Well, that and parties, music and time spent on the beach.

As in past years, the party starts well before race day on Thursday 14 June at 6.30pm at the Jet Around Cayman riders meeting and teams are encouraged to take part in the festivities. This informative and social meeting for all race teams and sponsors is also the last opportunity to register for the races on Monday

On Friday 15 June it is time for the the official Kick Off Party for Jet Around Cayman, which will be held at Margaritaville. If the previous editions of the event are anything to go by, this will be one of the hottest parties out there, with the riders relishing the opportunity to mingle with fans and other party people.

On Saturday 16 June the race will go on the road when VIBE 98.9 FM and SPIN 94.9 FM present the official Jet Around Cayman road show featuring live remote broadcasts and prize giveaways at various locations in Grand Cayman. Everyone is invited to come out and meet some of the racers who will be taking up the Jet Around challenge.

Sunday 17 June may be a day of rest, but not for long, with DJ Von and the jet ski riders set to kick off the party in the VIP lounge at Elements Ultra Lounge at the Strand on Seven Mile Beach just as the calendar ticks over to Monday morning at 12.01am.

The main event will take place on Monday 18 June when top local and international racers roar into action from Public Beach on Seven Mile Beach at 1pm.

They will race around the Island in a clockwise direction, staying outside the reef while passing through numerous check points along the way. Riders and their craft are put to the ultimate challenge as they try to hold it together for somewhere around 90 minutes of continuous beating.

While the racers are out on the water, the crowds on the beach can expect plenty of entertainment on the beach as the organisers go all out to make it a brilliant day out.

This year will be even more exciting for the spectators on the beach as for the first time in the history of the race every jet ski participating in the race will be equipped with a GPS tracking device, provided by Cayman Armoured Security Service.

This will allow those on the beach as well as anyone monitoring the race online to see exactly where each racer is on the course.

This year’s event will also feature a monster new first prize for a brand new category, expected to draw participants from all over the world.

“This year, I am proud to announce the addition of the new Iron Man Class, touting a US$10,000 grand prize, which is the biggest prize in Jet Around Cayman history, we anticipate a record number of racers entering in this race,” says Kenny Rankin of Monster Media.

This year’s event is sponsored by LIME Cayman Islands, Cayman Airways, SPIN 94.9 FM, VIBE 98.9 FM, Caymanian Compass, Signs of Paradise, Westar TV, Paramount Carpets, Wes-Tec, Cayman Armoured Security Service and the official event organiser Monster Media.
