The Barefoot Man:
Sunny is bringing to the Island an assembly of his fans to join up with some of the devoted Barefoot buffs for seven days of fun activities and music.
James ‘Sunny Jim’ White is a singer/songwriter whose original songs are inspired by love, life in the Caribbean and the interesting people who frequent the islands. His light-hearted approach and clever interpretation have earned him a loyal following across the US, especially among those who appreciate the tropical lifestyle.
Sunny Jim’s songs are often heard on Jimmy Buffett’s Radio Margaritaville, broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio. With the recent release of KISS, James White’s collection of self-published music now includes eight studio CDs and three live recordings.
James writes what he knows. In 1988 a temporary band gig brought him to Grand Cayman where he enthusiastically embraced the laidback island lifestyle, and picked up the moniker ‘Sunny Jim’ from a band mate.
When the band returned to Nashville, he stayed on as the artist-in-residence at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman where he performed for some seven years. Blame it on the Rum, a track from his Life in the Laid Back Lane CD, was written and recorded for the Paramount movie The Firm, filmed on location at the Hyatt in Grand Cayman. James even has a small cameo appearance in the film.
Sunny Jim and the Barefoot Man will be hosting a special weeklong musical event starting 16 June. Sunny is bringing to the Island an assembly of his fans to join up with some of the devoted Barefoot buffs for seven days of fun activities and music.
On Wednesday, 20 June, James will be performing from 7pm to 9pm at Margaritaville to celebrate 25th anniversary of Red Sail Sports, one of the sponsors of the Sunny and Barefoot festival. I’m sure I’ll be stopping by with a few songs of my own… as long as James buys me a few margaritas.
On Thursday 21 June the entourage moves over to the Reef Resort in East End when it’s my turn to do all the work. Both of these events are open to the public.
