Gastronauts! Get ready for the Cookout

Sidebar:  Schedule of Events

The Cayman Islands are becoming rightly feted as the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean, with year-round delights to entice every palate.

One of the cornerstone events to celebrate everything epicurean is the world-class Cayman Cookout, which brings the globe’s finest chefs to these exalted shores in an unparalleled shindig that includes demonstrations, talks, wine tastings and the opportunity to rub shoulders with the likes of Anthony Bourdain, José Andrés and curator of the festival, Eric Ripert.

The event runs from Thursday, 17 January through to Sunday, 20 January and celebrates food, wine and the natural beauty of the Caribbean at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. An incomparable roster of world famous chefs, wine experts and spirits blenders will offer tastings, demonstrations, tours and dinners that celebrate the barefoot elegance that only the Cayman Islands can deliver.

The fun begins on Thursday with the very special wine auction dinner presented by Jacques Scott and chefs of the Ritz-Carlton – drawn from many of the top resorts worldwide. Seating is $195 but for $500 you can sit at a table with a celebrity chef.

Choose from Andrés, Ripert, Bourdain, Daniel Humm, Spike Mendelsohn (who by the way was robbed in The Next Iron Chef: Redemption… booo!) and Dale MacKay. All proceeds to charity on that. Proceeds benefit The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Culinary Arts Scholarship and Cayman HospiceCare, which is committed to providing comfort to its patients and their families and friends.

Of course, we don’t have room in this esteemed (or steamed, if you’re being healthy) publication for all the brilliant events going on – you’ll have to head to caymancookout.com for that – but we have picked out a couple of events that tickled our (French) fancies.
