We have more than our fair share of talented DJs on the island, but rarely do people know what makes them tick, unless it’s through their music. Learn more about your favorite master mixers right here: how they got into the industry, and where they plan to go in the future.

Selecta Renegade

What is your favorite track right now?
I don’t think any true DJ has one favorite track or genre, but if I had to answer to save a life this month: Drake – Hold on we’re going home.

Where did the name come from?
Well it started as John the Baptist, and then when I moved to Miami, it became DJ Renegade. [Then] I did a Spring Break party in Negril with MTV’s DJ Skribble, which got me some undesired attention from another DJ Renegade who has the name trademarked in the US. So after being threatened to be sued and doing the lawyer stuff it became Selecta Renegade. So please no DJ here, LOL.

Which other countries have you played/put parties on?
Let’s see, numerous cities throughout the USA, Jamaica, Bahamas, Belize, St Vincent, USVI, Canada [and] Grenada.

So how is the scene in your eyes at the moment?
Well for me it’s still busy/successful. I still travel to DJ and along with my resident Job at Elements, Star 92.7 and miscellaneous parties, I am grateful to still be able to do what I love for so many years.

If you could stage a rave anywhere, where would you choose?
It would be Oct. 4, I would call it RAVE to celebrate my birthday and it would be at the Harquail Theatre. Oh yeah, that is happening! Hope to see you there! [smile]
