Swashbuckling swimmers and runners
Pirates Week is not just a great time for parties and functions; the sports people get plenty of activities too. At this time of year many are preparing for the Cayman Marathon on Dec. 1 and the Pirates Week sports events help keep them fit and focused.
The first sporting event of Pirates Week is the always popular 5K run that attracts entrants of all ages and, indeed, all abilities.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Sport, it is organized by the Pirates Week Office in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Athletic Association. Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, the race starts and finishes on Harbour Drive.
The racecourse goes south from Harbour Drive onto South Church Street and into South Sound. It then returns on the same route to the harbor.
The run is a great way to feel healthy before the night that promises a great show and fantastic entertainment. It all ends just before the fireworks display so there will already be big crowds around to cheer on their friends, families and favorites.
The awards will be presented to the first three runners in each age group plus lots of spot prizes and visitors to Cayman are more than welcome to join the fun. Registration fee is $20 or US$25.
