Main Story: Our feature models

Monica’s modeling career began when she was scouted at the age of 17 by an agency in London called Oxygen Models. “I was at that awkward lanky stage in life,” she says, “so I have no idea why they chose me.”

When it comes to her own clothes, she loves patterns, prints, lace and anything handmade, baggy or loose.

“I take a lot of inspiration from the 60s and 70s,” she says, and when asked about fashion in Cayman, she feels that the laidback atmosphere of island life is a big contributor to what people wear.

“There’s such a mixture of people from different countries and I think culture inspires fashion. The chilled out island vibes and the nature here influence our style, and that sets us apart from big city fashion.”

Monica has worked on some exciting projects up until now, including participating in London Fashion Week, and a campaign Calum Best, son of the football legend, George Best. As her agency is based in London, she lets them know when she is in town and available for work.

Her dream job is to work in TV, which is useful, as she is the host and producer of Discover Cayman.

“I love working in TV,” she says. “From hosting, shooting and editing, to the writing, photography and music … it all appeals to me. I’m a bit of a geek!
