Name: Miss Cayman, Tonie Maria Chisholm
Born: George Town, Grand Cayman
How did it feel to win Miss Cayman?
It was an incredibly surreal and humbling moment. I didn’t enter the pageant knowing that I would win, but I worked hard and it was incredible to [find] that it all paid off in the end.
What have been some of the highlights of your reign so far?
I have had the chance to meet so many new people. One of the most important parts about being Miss Cayman is getting to know your country from a different perspective. But my absolute favorite part is visiting schools and spending time with the kids. Their view of Miss Cayman is so fun and welcoming. It’s one of those experiences that I can’t describe, and reminds me that I am a role model for our youth.
Who has been your biggest support throughout the competition?
I can’t say there has been one person who has been my biggest supporter. I have had support from my family, friends and the general public. I am grateful to anyone who believed in me.
What do you think makes a person beautiful?
For me, what makes someone beautiful is happiness. It’s not something that comes naturally to us; we work hard to be this every day. And the chance is that [if] you are happy, you will make others happy too. Spreading light is something I think people can forget to do in such a fast paced world.
What beauty regimen (if any) do you follow yourself?
I have problematic skin, [so] a strict and evolving regimen is necessary for me. The most important [element] is water. I consume at least two liters a day. I also make sure that no matter what, I clean my skin thoroughly before I apply my makeup and after. Don’t forget sunscreen too; I never leave the house before I apply it.
What products can you not live without?
My beauty blender. It’s fantastic for applying coverage that looks as natural as possible.
What is your favorite method of exercising?
I interval and weight train three times a week at Life Extensions Gym. I’ve found it to be the most effective [method of exercise].
How do you relax?
Yoga is one of the ways that I relax. It helps [me to] calm down [and] let go of any troubles I might think I have. It’s worrying about the little things that will get you.
Who do you most admire in the world, and why?
I have admiration for anyone who finds the fortitude to follow their dreams, no matter how big or small they think they are. What’s most important to me is to be happy.
What are your goals for the future?
Right now I’m focusing on Miss Universe and making my country proud. After that, I want to go back to school to complete a Masters in film, with a focus on directing.
What advice would you give to young girls who aspire to become future Miss Caymans?
The most important part about this competition is remembering who you are and sticking to it. Not everyone will get it or understand it, but it’s always best to be you; because who else is better at being you, than you?
