Taking breast cancer awareness to the streets
October is considered to be the official month for raising breast cancer awareness, and Cayman is no slouch in joining the fight. The Breast Cancer Gala will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3 this year, along with the first walk/run of two in memory of Brenda Tibbetts-Lund.
The theme of the event is “Celebrate Courage,” and it is organized by the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens. There is no worry of scrambling to get ready for the gala dinner on the same night, as this walk/run starts off at a brisk 6 a.m. at Kaibo. You’ll have plenty of time to get home, have a nap, and then spruce yourself up for the black tie evening ahead.
All are welcome to participate in the 5K, from first-timers and amateurs to well-seasoned athletes.
The second walk/run of 5K and 10K distances is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Holiday Inn, again at 6 a.m.
The registration fees are $25 per event, and include a T-shirt. The earlier you register, the better, as T-shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed and those first to sign-up will be given priority.
