The Cayman Drama Society has seen a bumper season at its home, the Prospect Playhouse Theatre. Shows have sold out to the point that scalpers may soon set up shop and all productions have been very well received.
The upcoming season will see award-winning dramas, comedies and musicals taking to the stage, and it can now be stated as fact that if you don’t get your tickets early, you may find yourself on the waiting list.
‘Playhouse Family Christmas’
Grizz and Frizz are back with a cavalcade of Christmas characters. This family-friendly show is a must for all ages and gets everyone into the festive spirit. There is usually mulled wine for sale at the bar and of course, Santa always makes an appearance.
Many will remember the film starring Michael Caine and Julie Walters in the main roles. This story of a young hairdresser who wants to complete her education and an alcoholic professor who sees her potential is full of humor and heart.
‘On Golden Pond’
This 1979 play by Ernest Thompson focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer, who spend each summer at their home on a lake called Golden Pond. The story takes place over a year, with their daughter Chelsea, her fiancé Billy Ray and his son, Billy Ray Jr., visiting before they leave the teenage boy with the couple for a month.
Catherine has inherited her late father’s mathematical brilliance, but she is haunted by the fear that she might also share his debilitating mental illness. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, David Auburn’s play is a passionate, intelligent story about fathers and daughters, the nature of genius and the power of love.
‘Into The Woods’
Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests.
