One of the most prominent events on the annual sports calendar – the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon – is fast approaching.

This major sporting event is being held on Sunday, Dec. 2 and will benefit two great local causes: the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.

The race is IAAF-sanctioned through the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and can be used as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

The event draws an international crowd, with many participants jetting in for the occasion.

The race always starts at 5 a.m. on Harbour Drive and takes runners along South Church Street onto South Sound before turning onto Old Prospect Road. Participants then turn around and go back onto South Sound, up Walkers Road and Hospital Road into central George Town, crossing the finish line back on Harbour Drive.

The event also includes the Half Marathon, 4 Person Relay/ CUC High School Challenge and Kids Fun Run.
