Having difficulty getting off the couch and still blaming the effects of Christmas turkey? Well, sign up for one, or both, of these group event at which you can exercise and socialize at the same time.
CUC 800m Sea Swim
The CUC Sea Swim, celebrating 30 years is taking place at 4 p.m. at Governors Beach on Jan. 12. The 400m swim for participants 12 and under follows directly afterwards. There will be registration on the beach between 3 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Five Cayman Airways gift vouchers are up for grabs.
Entry fees for the 800m for Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association members are $15 for adults and $10 for children; for non-members it is $20 for adults and $15 for children. The entry fee for the 400m is a flat rate of $10 per person. There will be trophies presented to the first, second and third place finishing times in all categories, along with T-shirts and refreshments for all participants.

Nationwide Stride Against Cancer
This event raises money for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society and takes place at numerous locations (Kaibo, North Side; Seven Mile Public Beach, next to Calico Jack’s; Southern Cross, Little Cayman).
The half-marathon/long course/timed race starts at 6 a.m. and the quarter-marathon/short course starts at 7 a.m. (participants are asked to gather for the group shot at 6:45 a.m.)
Early bird registration is $25 until 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 12 and is $30 thereafter. Race packets (T-shirts) can be collected starting the week of Jan. 21. Sizes are limited, so go early.
