Symbolizing a long-lasting, rich and happy marriage, the wedding cake is said to bring good luck to the couple and all guests who eat it.
“Cayman is a wonderful setting for destination weddings, and so many of our [couples] have beautiful beach cakes,” says Lori-Ann Foley of The Cake Studio. “Our local weddings usually have stunning two- to-three-tiered cakes bursting with colorful sugar flowers.”
Lori-Ann says among the most popular flavors are chocolate with salted caramel and chocolate ganache filling, and white almond cake with white chocolate ganache and raspberry filling.
Brittanni Seymour of Scratch Gourmet Desserts notes one top trending ingredient is elderflower, inspired by the royal wedding cake of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
“Gold accents or cakes that are completely gold are definitely a trend,” she says. “Naked cakes or cakes with minimal ice is a trend that seems to be here to stay, with white and ivory a classic that is still very much in style.”
Lori-Ann says with an abundance of flavors and designs, it is easy to personalize the cake down to the last detail.
One of the most unique cakes she created was inspired by the intricate lace designs by couture bridal house Galia Lahav.
“We used gold lace in the design and crystal sugar flowers,” she says, noting the exquisite creation was featured in the latest issue of multicultural bridal magazine Munaluchi Bride.
Lori-Ann has a few suggestions couples should keep in mind when selecting their wedding cake.
“We would recommend a cake tasting and design consultation,” she says. The couple should also have a clear idea of their budget for the cake.
“From there, we can make suggestions and work together to create a gorgeous and sumptuous cake that excites all of the senses,” she says.
Brittanni adds the couple should focus on their personal tastes, as it is their wedding cake. “Keep in mind that it is your special day, therefore choosing the flavors you like best is crucial,” she says.
