What’s on the Big Screen – March

‘Captain Marvel’

Comic book fans, rejoice! It seems that the Marvel Universe has no intention of slowing down, at least when it comes to films about its characters.

This time, a brand new hero is on the big screen – Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel – played by Brie Larson.
The trailers have certainly been impressive, and Larson is equal to the task, despite concerns about her young age when compared to the accomplishments and skills of the character she is portraying.

Carol Danvers is a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot who joins Starforce, an elite Kree military team. When Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races, she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes.

Beyond Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury, there are many new faces in this film. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype.

‘Dumbo’

Get the tissues ready; the animated film with moments that no one will forget (we defy you to remain stone-hearted through the song “Baby Mine”) has returned as a live-action remake with Tim Burton at the helm.
Starring Eva Green, Colin Farrell and Michael Keaton, it tells the tale of a baby elephant with huge ears that give him the ability to fly.

Also coming up: A Madea Family Funeral, The Favourite, The Mustang, Wonder Park, We Die Young, Us, Informer, Captive StateThe story does not exactly follow the original, but there will be many familiar scenes to tug at the heartstrings. Expect Burton to put his own unique twist on things, while his muse Danny Elfman provides the music once again.

Burton is known for his dark designs and extraordinary color palates, so whether this version will be as family friendly as the beloved Disney classic is yet to be seen. Take a look at the trailers on iTunes and YouTube.
