Lustic Life Book Club

Book cover for You Are A Badass Every Day by Jen Sincero

Eclectic selections are at the heart of the Lustic Life Book Club, which meets at 6 p.m. the last Thursday of each month at West Indies Wine Club.

“Every month there are new faces who join, and most attendees don’t know anyone at the start, but by the end there have been new friendships formed over some very real and inspiring conversations about finding your passion, changing careers, managing stress, friendships, marriage and family life,” says Sophie Prior, who started the free club.

This month’s selection, “You Are a Badass Every Day” by Jen Sincero, is available at Books & Books with a 20 percent discount when you mention the book club. RSVP online and download the “cheat sheet.”

Bookends Book Club

Book cover for Frankenstein (1818 Edition] by Mary ShelleyFancy some lively discussion on a book list voted by members? Show up at 6:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month at Abacus in Camana Bay for Bookends Book Club.

The most recent read to generate spirited back-and-forth was “Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov. “A controversial book which [was] reflected in our discussion,” says club host Tony Walton. “It had everything: sex, relationships, age and life.”

April’s selection is “Frankenstein (1818 Edition]” by Mary Shelley. For May, it’s “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine” by Gail Honeyman. The full list through January 2020 is posted on Facebook.

“We vote on which books will be read each year, and the criteria is literary fiction and nonfiction,” said Tony.
