KEEPING IT REEL

‘Ad Astra’

Brad Pitt has got two films in theatres at the moment. Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ hit screens  at the end of July and now ‘Ad Astra’ opens on 20 Sept. The former is about stars in Hollywood and the latter is about stars in the heavens. Pitt plays Roy McBride, an astronaut willing to travel through lawless space to locate his father, Cliff ord McBride (Tommy Lee Jones), who has been missing for many years and whose previous
doomed expedition now threatens the universe.

Early buzz on the film from the Venice Film Festival has been very positive, with critics lauding Pitt’s  performance and the spectacular visuals. Liv Tyler plays Roy’s wife, Eve McBride, and the man with the instantly recognizable voice, Donald Sutherland, is Colonel Pruitt. Hey, anything starring Tommy Lee Jones is worth a look.

If the trailers are anything to go by, we are pretty excited about this movie. This is definitely one to watch on the big screen.

‘Rambo: Last Blood’

Sylvester Stallone is 73 years old.

When ‘First Blood’ was released it was 1982 and he was 36. Wow. Apparently neither he nor Rambo are going down without a fight, as the muscly Vietnam vet is back in the fifth film of the series.

This time, he is heading to Mexico to rescue a friend’s daughter who has been kidnapped. Shockingly, it does not all go smoothly, and soon he finds himself up against one of Mexico’s most ruthless cartels. Of course, the cartel doesn’t know what it’s in for either.

Supposedly, Rambo was to be killed at the end of ‘First Blood’, but as we all know, that didn’t end up being the case.

None of the sequels realised the critical acclaim of the original, yet the audiences loved Rambo and Stallone. You can’t keep a good soldier down. What are the odds that there will be a ‘Rambo: Last Blood II’? Don’t ever count Stallone out!
